Annual Report to the Board of Trustees

In July, the ISPC will present the latest CMU 2010 report to the Board of Trustees.  It will cover 2008-09 progress, including updates on the Key Performance Indicators, Vision Funded Projects, Beyond 2010, and recommendations for improving the planning process moving forward.  Look for the report online in the near future!

Beyond 2010

As mentioned in the last progress report, the development of the next strategic plan is currently on hiatus.  Please stay tuned for further announcements regarding the plan "Beyond 2010."  We thank you for your patience!

Spotlight on NAISEC and Native American Culture

NAISEC is a CMU recruitment strategy aimed at connecting Native American high school students with the university. NAISEC offers workshops on critical thinking, college preparations, financial aid, Native American cultures, history and how Native American cultures relate to higher education. Native American Culture Pamphlets provided CMU students/faculty/staff with an introduction to native cultures and the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.

This project has made great strides since it was first awarded funding in FY07.  Below are highlights provided in the annual report.  As of June 2009, the following milestones have been achieved:

  • NAISEC attendance will be near capacity (25-30) with 45% of participants being returning NAISEC students.  (They reached a record number of 29 students this year)

  • Positive feedback from participating students indicated in an End-of Camp Student Survey showing 90% planning to attend college, 25% planning to attend CMU, and 100% perceiving camp as a positive experience.

They are also in progress for their final milestone:

  • NAISEC students in 11th and 12th grade will apply to CMU with a minimum of 10% of graduating NAISEC applying and being admitted to CMU.

They will continue tracking efforts of graduating NAISEC participants and sending scholarship information to 12th grade students and inform them of outside Native American Scholarships that are offered.
